Laura Stewart Schmidt is a lifelong avid mystery reader and writer whose influences
include Caroline Cooney, Joan Lowery Nixon, Phyllis Whitney, and Agatha Christie. She
studied Political Science and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has
attended multiple writing conferences and is a regular attendee of UW-Madison’s Weekend With Your Novel. She worked as a community education specialist and a family court advocate for at-risk youth and parents suffering from substance addiction. She spent several years with a non-profit agency offering one-on-one support for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Laura is a member of Sisters in Crime, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and
Illustrators, and the Pacific Northwest Writer’s Association. Her published novels are Sweeter
Than Life, Until Proven Innocent (Black Rose Writing, 2018), and Don’t Fear, My Darling
(Black Opal Books, 2019).

She lives near St. Louis, Missouri with her husband and two dogs.
